How Our Mission and Statement Guides Us Through Life
Hi Friends!
Happy Monday! Can you believe it’s the last Monday of January? As slow as this month has felt, I can’t believe how quickly it’s actually flown by. Ian and I are gearing up for a goal review at the end of the week to assess how things are tracking for 2025, and as I reflect on that, it got me thinking about the way we set our goals and what truly inspires them. In my first blog post, I introduced PWFRIES, but I realized I never shared the origin of that concept—so let’s dive into it!
Some of you might find this cheesy, but Ian and I have created a mission and vision statement for our relationship. It’s something I look at every day, and honestly, it keeps me grounded and aligned with my best self. Now, I’ll admit—I’m not perfect, and there are times when I fall short of living up to our mission. When that happens, it tends to impact things—typically in a negative way. But whenever life throws a curveball, I find myself referencing our mission and vision, and it helps me regain my bearings and get back on track.
So far, 2025 has already thrown a few BIG curve balls at me that definitely weren’t on my bingo card, but reviewing our mission and vision has been instrumental in keeping me centered. It’s become a true guiding light.
Just recently, we took a trip to Boise to visit my grandparents. During our drive, we revisited our mission and vision statement, and now we’re in the process of updating them to better reflect who we are as individuals, as a couple, and as a family. We want it to be a true representation of every aspect of our lives—from our careers, to our interactions with family and friends, and even this blog! Our mission and vision serve as our lighthouse, guiding us through everything we do, helping us stay on course no matter what life brings.
So, what is our mission and vision?

Do I have it laminated and printed? Why, yes, yes I do!
I’ll be honest—writing this statement together was an incredibly powerful exercise for Ian and me. We actually wrote our mission and vision statement when we first started getting serious about our relationship. At that time, we were beginning to understand what we truly wanted from one another and what kind of life we wanted to build together. Little did we know, those early conversations would lay the foundation for everything that followed.
On our wedding day, we each referenced this mission and vision in our vows to one another. It was so much more than just a promise; it was a deep, intentional commitment to always show up for each other, grounded in the values we’d crafted together.
Since then, this statement has become a constant reference point for us. It helps us stay aligned, guides us through challenges, and reminds us of the life we’re striving to create—not just for ourselves, but for everyone we encounter. And now, whenever life presents challenges or surprises, we can look back at those words—words we chose with intention—and always find our way back to our purpose.
So, while we are looking to refine our statement to better reflect where we are now, the core of it will always remain the same. I’ll be sure to keep you updated on any changes we make, but in the meantime, I’m curious… do you have a personal mission and vision statement? If you do, I’d love to hear about it! If not, have you ever thought about creating one?
If you’re not sure where to start, I’d suggest asking yourself these questions:
- What drives you?
- What are your values, and how do they influence your goals and actions?
- Are there areas of your life that could benefit from a clearer direction or renewed purpose?
The journey of life isn’t always easy, but having a mission and vision to guide you can make it feel a little clearer and more manageable. Whether it’s in your relationship, career, or personal growth, taking time to define your path is one of the best investments you can make.
Thank you for reading and for being part of this journey with me. I’m so excited to continue sharing more with you soon!
With love,
Britt
